Many of us often think that our articles are not getting views, but in reality, getting views on a platform like Medium is not in our control. It depends on many algorithms, trends and time.

But when people do not read our article for even 30 seconds despite getting views, it is our fault — and it should not be ignored.

This means that we could not give our readers the value they expected.

There are two main reasons for this:

1. Lack of proper coordination between article and title: Many times, our title says something and the content of the article is something else. This makes the reader feel that they have been misled, and they leave the article without reading it.

2. Our own effort is not reflected in the article: Sometimes we write anything just to complete the article. There is no proper structure, no headings, no examples. Such an article does not engage anyone and the user leaves quickly.

If you want to improve your Read Ratio, then keep these things in mind:

1. Keep a title that completely matches your article.

2. It should not only be attractive but also honest.

   Write the article in the proper format:

1. Use subheadings

2. Keep short paragraphs

3. Add examples where necessary

4. There should be an action point or summary at the end

Let your effort be reflected in the writing:

It should seem that you have really tried to teach or explain something to the reader, and not just print the article.

For example:

1. Wrong title and article:

Title: "How to earn money from freelancing?"

Content: Just listed the names of freelancing websites - Fiverr, Upwork... that's it!

2. Correct title and article:

Title: "How I started earning ₹10,000 from freelancing - my experience"

Content:

1. Where did I start

2. How did I get my first client

3. Which site did I work on

4. What mistakes did I learn

5. What should newbies do

A low read ratio is a sign that you need to improve your writing style. When your content brings value to the reader, they will read it till the end, share it and also follow it.
